It’s sitting there above the screen, staring at you all day, but still doesn’t get as much use as it should. Most netbooks have built in webcams - normally with a resolution of around 1.3 megapixels.

Most of you probably have no difficulty thinking what to use your webcam for, but a number of you will. That’s the purpose of this post, to give you ideas of how you can use your netbook webcam. The ideas may not be revolutionary, but hey - a few suggestions go a long way!

  • VIDEO CHAT- This is the most obvious use, whereby you use one of the many video chat programs out there to allow your friends and/or relatives to see you as you chat to them. Skype and Windows Live Messenger are the most popular programs for this, but there are many more.
  • VIDEO BLOGGING- With the popularity of You Tube, everyone is grabbing their slice of the action. With a software package that allows you to record from your webcam, you can create video blogs and post them on to the internet to share with others.
  • SECURITY MONITORING- With the right software package, you can use your webcam to act as a security camera when you are away from your home. Some packages allow you to log in remotely to see if any unwanted guests are in your house.
  • LIVE STREAMING- This is where your webcam streams live to the internet. A use for this may be that you want the world to see the view from your window to the outside world, or maybe your tropical fish tank!

These four things are more than enough to get you started. Another example of how netbooks are such usable devices. So don’t wait any longer… Get that webcam going right now!
