Will 2009 be the year of the netbook? HP launches the Mini 2140 Netbook
Jan 06

Lenovo have announced an update for its computer line up, with various upgrades and extra features now available across the range. The good thing about this, is that they haven’t forgotten their netbook in this latest refresh!

Lenovo’s netbook is called the S10, and has been available for a few months now. The specification is fairly similar to the other netbooks, with an Intel Atom processor, accompanied by Windows XP and 1GB RAM.

With this update, the Lenovo S10 netbook has gained quite a few features that may make it more likely to stand out from the crowd - especially those who are business users.

The updated Lenovo S10 now includes the following features, in addition to those originally offered;

  • Instant-on secondary operating system
    • This is similar to the Express Gate system offered on Asus computers. It allows the computer to boot up a secondary operating system in less than 10 seconds, that will allow users to browse the internet, email or use Skype. Very useful for those who need speedy access to some common programs without having to fully power up the netbook.
  • VeriFace facial-recognition
    • This does exactly what you might expect it to do. It allows you to control some of the security features of your netbook (such as logging on) by using the webcam to recognise your face. Now not many people are going to have your face, unless you’ve got a twin!
  • Multi Touch
    • The pinch and stretch type touch controls that are used on Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch have become extremely popular. This function offers something similar using the netbook’s touch pad.
  • Slightly larger screen
    • A minor upgrade, but still a welcome one, is that the screen will be increased from 10″ to 10.2″ in the updated model.

So there we have it, a welcome update of the Lenovo S10 netbook. Expect other manufacturers to offer new or updated models in the next few months.
