New netbooks seem to be coming thick and fast at the moment, with a raft of new models announced at the CES show a few weeks ago.
Asus have just issued a press release announcing their newest netbook, called the Asus Eee PC 1000HE. It will be the first netbook to use the Intel Atom N280 processor.
According to the press release, the Asus Eee PC 1000HE offers “comfort and style”- a description that suggests this model may be orientated to those who want to spend a little more than average on a netbook.
The Asus Eee PC 1000HEhas the usual netbook specifications - 10 inch screen, WiFi, Bluetooth, built-in microphone and webcam.
There are some significant new features included as well;
ASUS Super Hybrid Engine (SHE) technology
This works with the new Intel Atom N280 processor to either boost it for extra horse-power or subdue it to extend battery life. A feature that will really benefit those who are looking for longer battery life whilst on the move.
Higher Density battery
A higher density battery, combined with the SHE technology (see above), will give an estimated 9.5 hours of battery life. It is worth noting, however, that in everyday use battery life is often shorter than figures quoted by manufacturers.
New Keyboard
A new style of keyboard is featured on this netbook, similar to the one featured on Apple’s Macbook range. Asus suggest it gives a faster and more comfortable typing experience.
Hybrid Storage
This new netbook has a 160GB hard disk drive (HDD), but also features 10GB of file-encrypted Eee online storage. This means you can store shared documents online and access them on the move.
The final selling price of this new model has not yet been confirmed, but this Asus page suggests that there will be a time limited introductory offer price of $399.
